Biosensor Technology

M-Biotech's biosensor represents a new milestone in glucose biosensor technology. M-Biotech's patented design allows us to manufacture inexpensive yet highly durable sensors for the continuous monitoring of blood glucose levels.

Our miniature design enables minimally invasive implantation for painless and convenient monitoring. The key feature of our efficient Glucose Biosensor is the combination of a glucose-sensitive hydrogel and a miniature pressure sensor. Glucose-responsive hydrogels are biocompatible materials that either swell or contract when the glucose concentrations change in the body fluid surrounding the hydrogel.

The Hydrogel
M-Biotech's hydrogel materials swell reversibly and to varying degrees in response to specific concentrations of certain solutes. This swelling corresponds to the amount of force that the gel exerts on a pressure sensing diaphragm. The deflection of the diaphragm is measured by means of a piezoresistive bridge and the deflection provided as a change in voltage. Thus the various amounts of force applied by the swellable hydrogel can be measured as changes in voltage. The gels can be functionalized to swell in response to concentration changes of protons, glucose and salts in solution. We have a number of projects underway to design gels that will swell preferentially in the presence of various types and families of soluble factors.
